HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE PARK AQUATIC CLUBThe history of the team dates back to the mid-1980s. At that time two small teams, Abingdon Village and Framingham, were swimming for their respective homeowner associations in the Virginia Beach Swim League (VBSL). Located in the College Park area of Virginia Beach, these teams were looking to expand and become more competitive. Abingdon Village and Framingham teamed up to form what is now the College Park Aquatic Club (CPAC). The pools owned by both communities were used for practices, and there were no home meets. In the late-1980s, CPAC teamed up with another local homeowner association, The Villages, that owned a 5-lane pool. Under this arrangement, Abingdon Village and Framingham provided funding for the coaches, and The Villages provided use of their pool for practices and home meets. This agreement between the Associations stayed into effect until 1999 when The Villages pool became unavailable. After searching for a home pool, CPAC established an agreement to use the 6-lane, 25 meter pool at the Honey Bee Golf Club in 1999. That pool continues to serve as CPAC's home pool for practices and home meets. It has been the site of one VBSL All-Star Meet, and several Divisional Championship Swim Meets. The table below provides some historical information on coaches, Team Reps and swimming records.
